For Subscribers

Subscribers get full access to our archive of the web's best podcast content "in Print". Content is reproduced with the permission of the podcaster, making Pods in Print your exclusive source for transcripts of podcasts.

A high quality transcript with fully corrected terms and jargon allows you to more easily follow up information in the podcast. Our time-indexing feature means you can quickly find areas of interest and listen to the most pertinent bits of the audio.

We place accuracy at the heart of our transcription process. Transcripts are produced in-house and edited by our team of content experts. Unlike budget options these documents are checked thoroughly and edited extensively to bring to you an accurate written record of the audio content.

FAQs

What are podcasts and what is Pods in Print for?

Podcasts are digital audio files, often of the spoken word, published on the web. Whilst podcast specifically refers to audio downloaded by means of feeds such as RSS and playable on portable devices like Apple's iPod we at Pods in Print transcribe internet audio content of all formats.

Increasing bandwidth means more and more audio content is created specifically for internet broadcast, and may be unavailable in other forms. Pods in Print partners with podcasters to create transcripts and bring this content to a larger audience.

Our transcripts may include interviews with leading business figures, popular radio shows, lectures given by accomplished academics or the proceedings of conferences. Wherever such audio content is published on the internet we believe it should be accompanied by a transcript.

Which new transcripts will you provide in future?

We only provide transcripts when we have the agreement of the podcaster, who owns the copyright to the audio. In general any audio appearing on that podcaster's site is eligible for transcription and we will add it to the database over time. Of course some podcasts are not suitable for transcription, as an example those with predominantly music content.

For subscribers we guarantee to add certain content on an ongoing basis. Those web sites with the "in Full" tag receive total coverage. All appropriate new audio material posted will be transcribed and added to the database for as long as the podcaster wants to partner with us.

As for new sites, this is entirely down to you! Let us know which sites' content you like and we'll try to add their transcripts. Alternatively get in contact with the podcaster and tell them about our service.

Is there a limit to the number of transcripts I can download?

As a subscriber you have access to the whole database. As long as you don't abuse the notion, downloads are unlimited.

What can I do with these transcripts?

Under the agreement we have with podcasters, subscribers may read, print and copy transcripts for private, non-commercial use. You can also quote passages from the transcripts of up to 400 words, provided that you acknowledge the source as Pods in Print.

For Podcasters

Pods in Print’s offering allows podcasters to a) provide transcripts as a service to their listeners, and b) monetize the content of their podcasts.

Upon engagement we, without charge, transcribe podcasts and add them to our database. Access to the transcripts is by registered users only and may occur in a couple of ways: podcasters link directly to a transcript so that it appears embedded in their website; or users may search and browse the database from the podsinprint.com interface.

Participation in Pods in Print’s database generates revenues for podcasters. Just like royalties on sales of books and music, we pay a proportion of subscription revenue to the copyright holder. So podcasters receive royalties for allowing use of their content in creation of the transcript. The more popular a podcaster's transcripts the more royalties are payable.

FAQs

Is there a charge for transcription of my podcasts?

No. We create transcripts for you and provide them to our subscriber base.

Do I retain copyright to my podcasts?

Yes. You license use of the audio to Pods in Print strictly for the creation and sale of transcripts.

How are royalties calculated?

A fixed percentage of all our subscription revenue goes into a royalty pool to be paid to content providers each month. Allocation from the pool is in proportion to the popularity of content amongst subscribers. So if your transcripts received lots of hits in the month you'll get a larger share of the royalty pool.

Technical FAQs

How do I link to transcripts?

You can link to three areas of the website. The front page (from where users may search for your transcripts); the search page displaying all your transcripts; and the details page for a specific transcript (from where the transcript may be downloaded directly). Details for these links are found under the Transcripts tab in the admin area.

How do I see total royalties due?

You can see the latest number of downloads for your transcripts under the Transcripts tab in the admin area. The Royalties tab displays a list of monthly reports giving more download statistics and telling you the royalties generated.

When do I receive payment of royalties?

We will transfer any royalties due to you once every three months.

For Transcription

Pods in Print transcribes podcasts using a select team of typists and editors. Familiarity with multiple subject areas and years of transcription experience allow us to offer high-quality, affordable transcription services.

FAQs

Will my transcript be available to the public?

No. No transcript produced via our bespoke transcription service is entered into the database for public viewing.

What audio formats can you transcribe?

We can transcribe a wide range of digital audio or video file formats and streaming audio from any URL. For upload, file size can be up to 25MB so we usually advise recording at a relatively high bitrate to preserve audio quality.

Are the transcripts machine-generated?

No. All transcripts are typed and edited by real people.

What's the difference between the three price options?

Accuracy and turnaround. From budget to super premium, the three options represent higher accuracy transcription with faster turnaround. The three options are described in terms of a maximum turnaround time.

Different levels of accuracy are achieved with different levels of editing. All transcripts start off typed by humans. Editors then listen again to correct the text and fill in specialist terms. Two things to bear in mind when choosing a price option are the difficulty of your transcription and who's going to be reading it.

Difficulty is determined by factors such as background noise, volume variability, multiple speakers, technical terms and accented speakers. If your audio has one or several of these characteristics you should consider a higher quality option to ensure a satisfactory result.

Under normal difficulty conditions consider these guidelines:

If you need a transcript for search engines choose the budget option.
If you need a transcript for casual readers choose the premium option.
If you need a transcript for professional readers choose the super premium option.

Our super premium quality transcription option gives you peace of mind over quality. You can be assured of a near flawless transcript, with all terms fully researched and a high level of intelligence in editing. This option is suitable for transcripts that are to be published, possibly as part of a regulatory filing, an appendix to the formal record of a meeting, or an interview article in mass media.

For audio with several difficulty factors combined you may like to contact us for a bespoke quote. In these circumstances we can transcribe to a fixed price for best-effort accuracy, or transcribe to an absolute accuracy standard for a variable price.

If you upload difficult audio likely to affect the expected accuracy we will contact you as soon as possible to give an estimation of the possible accuracy at your chosen price option.

For quotes relating to specific requirements or enquiries about trade terms and bulk discounts please contact us.

How do you return the transcript to me?

Transcripts are sent by email to the address you provide. Don't worry, your data is protected by our privacy policy – we never spam!

What extra information should I provide?

In addition to your email address you can provide all sorts of information when you submit your order to help us customise the transcript. File type, formatting and style can be customised at no added cost. It is helpful to give the names of speakers where they may otherwise be unannounced. Usually we can find spellings for proper nouns through online research but if we're not sure you can tell us whether we should highlight uncertainties or make a best guess.

If you don't give any extra information it's no problem. We'll deliver the transcript using the Pods in Print default style – as a Word document, formatted much like the transcripts in the database and with an intelligent verbatim style i.e., omitting nothing, but editing for readability.

You might also like to provide telephone contact details, particularly for short turnaround pieces of work in case we need to clarify something with you.
